As COVID-19 recedes into the background, the transformation wrought by it has come steadily into focus. As we enter a new era of real estate, growing digitalisation and ever-changing consumer and occupier needs would shape the future of this industry. To map out this transformative journey, CBRE evaluated how the I&L sector is reacting and responding to these changing times. Below are our key observations:
- Global events such as increasing costs due to inflation, the war in Ukraine, etc., compounded supply chain disruptions, which impacted leasing decisions of occupiers and slowed down project completions.
- Overall leasing activity is now expected to remain range-bound at about 28-32 million sq. ft. in 2022 while supply addition could reach up to 25-28 million sq. ft.
- India likely to remain a key manufacturing destination and among the top seaborne exporters by volume, thus driving demand for I&L assets.
