As 2021 draws to a close and we look towards a stronger 2022, the office sector witnessed heightened activity with occupiers starting to implement leasing decisions, developers prioritizing asset enhancement and investors launching new commercial investment platforms. Even though new variants and a prolonged pandemic might add to the uncertainty in early 2022, however, we are hopeful of a strong resurgence in this sector.

CBRE Research collaborated with its Advisory & Transactions and Workplace Strategy teams and engaged with some of the leading corporate occupiers to gauge their sentiments. The survey was conducted from September till November and following are some of its findings. Please download the report to read more.

  • Senior business leaders have expressed a strong desire to bring employees back to the office with about 80% of them prioritizing physical offices; but several of them are also willing to offer a greater degree of flexibility and choice.
  • More than 60% of occupiers are likely to expand their portfolios over the next two years.
  • More than 90% of occupiers are expected to include flexible spaces as a part of their portfolios over the next two years.
  • The future role of the office would have an increased emphasis on collaboration, engagement and productivity, as new working patterns emerge during the pandemic.
